Italian is the LOTE (Languages Other Than English) subject at Marist College Eastwood. It is taught to Year 8 students over a full year, with a communicative approach focussing on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Computer skills and researching skills are also developed when learning Italian.

Three incursions during the year help the students experience more of the language and culture of Italy.

Students also have the opportunity to experience cultural activities such preparing Italian cuisine, including both food and beverages. On the Open Day, an Italian cafe is run with students help. They may provide biscuits and cakes free of charge to visitors. Some students also make the coffees for the visitors.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to embrace the language and culture of Italian, leaving them with important, long-lasting skills in one of the world’s most beautiful languages.
