Marist Oratory

On Wednesday 6 September, MCE students attended the final event on the Public Speaking & Debating calendar for 2017. Held annually, the Marist Oratory Competition sees students from Marist schools around NSW compete against each other in year groups with corresponding time limits.
Students selected a topic of their choice from the list provided and set about writing engaging, informative and entertaining speeches which touched on some highly poignant topics. Overwhelmingly, by adjudicator consensus, our Year 10 hopeful James Lay took out the first place in his Year Division with his speech addressing the topic that The reward is worth the effort”, in a speech which extolled the virtues of optimism and dedication, yet reminded us that in our more difficult moments, we must never be discouraged from asking for help from those around us.
